BSI appoints KeCrypt to advise on biometric standards

BIOMETRICS & THE BSI

Biometric standards are now being developed internationally and the contribution of the BSI Biometrics Committee is vital to their success.  The BSI’s recent appointment of John Dale, KeCrypt’s Managing Director, to the IST/44 Committee ensures the UK’s leading role in Standards development.

NEW STANDARDS OF SECURITY

BSI appoints KeCrypt to advise on biometric standards

In an increasingly security conscious world, relying on human recognition, magnetic or smart cards with passwords or PINS, is no longer secure enough.  Biometric verification is now the emergent technology – and the development of international biometrics standards is recognition of this.

Everyone involved in the biometrics industry – from systems integrators to Governments – has to recognise that all system parts have life-cycle issues that can lead to major redevelopments. The adoption of Standards can mitigate the effects and protect commercial users, while achieving the ultimate aim of the interoperability of solutions.

Of course, this is very difficult when developers have invested so much of their own intellectual property. The International Standards try to cut through this at the same time as recognising the vendor's issues. Fortunately, considerable progress has already been made in establishing frameworks for applications to work with biometrics, as demonstrated by KeCrypt’s growing list of SI Partnerships.

Through the expertise of the BSI Biometrics Committee, the UK plays a key role in this international development.  In particular, the appointment of KeCrypt Systems’ managing director, John Dale, brings on board one of the world’s very few experts on dynamic signatures.  In fact, KeCrypt Signature is a unique commercial example of signature verification.  And KeCrypt’s reputation as the UK’s leading developer enables it to make an authoritative contribution to international standards.
